This uncirculated $20 gold coin:
Determined to modernize and beautify U.S. coinage, President Theodore Roosevelt charged his good friend Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the most famous sculptor of his era, with redesigning the $20 gold coin. With its powerfully striding portrait of Lady Liberty, the result is widely considered the most beautiful U.S. gold coin ever, but its incredibly intricate, ultra high relief design exceeded the capabilities of mass production in 1907. The "flattened" design actually minted, though stunning, could have been even more beautiful. In 2009, the U.S. Mint honored the artist’s vision by re-creating the original ultra high relief coin with modern minting technology.
